The Pressure Aging Vessel – PAV Equipment (or Pressure Aging Vessel) is an instrument used to simulate the aging of conventional and modified asphalt binders (for about 10 years). The asphalt samples aged in the RTFOT (Rolling Thin End Oven Test) oven are placed in shallow stainless steel containers in the pressure vessel for 20 hours heated and pressurized at 2.10 MPa. Regarding the aging temperature that will be used during the test, it is selected according to the type of asphalt binder. After aging, the sample is submitted to a vacuum oven to de-aerate (VDO – Vacuum Degassing Oven), and then rheological tests such as Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) and Bending Beam Rheometer (BBR) are performed.
Stratura is a pioneer in high-performance asphalt materials technology, which has the Pressure Aging Vessel – PAV Equipment, an important tool that enables engineers and consultants to anticipate decision-making in relation to design and construction methods, such as:
– Evaluate the best binder that presents better performance and thermal stability against oxidative processes during the lifetime of the pavement;
– Develop asphalt mixtures with asphalt binders that resist fatigue cracking at service temperatures, after evaluating the long-term aging properties of the asphalt binder.
